Children’s safety is an issue of great importance. It is the responsibility of parents in the first place to secure the safety of their children physically, mentally and socially. Here are some tips for parents on how to keep their children safe and secure at home and outside their homes.

Unfortunately, children are usually the cause and at the same time victims of most serious accidents that happen in our houses. Therefore, the first thing that parents have to pay attention to is the safety of their children at home. This involves simple yet effective measures such as keeping dangerous substances and sharp tools out of the reach of children. For example, matches and lighters are like time bombs because they can easily cause a house fire if children have access to them, especially in the absence of their parents or other adult family members. Parents should also make sure that children are not left unattended at home for extended periods of time. In the city where I live, many tragic accidents of children falling from windows and getting killed while their parents were away from home have happened over the past few years.

Taking care of children’s safety outside the home is also very important. This includes teaching children the right rules of crossing the road while going to school or back home. In this respect, I believe it is also the responsibility of traffic policemen to watch pedestrian crossings around schools and make sure that drivers do not exceed the speed limit there. In a meeting with parents, the principal of a local school said, “Leaving children to cross the road on their own is a recipe for killing them.” In addition to that, parents should never allow their children to play on or near roads as this exposes them to serious car accidents. Instead, children should be given the chance to play in safe and secure places such as public gardens or clubs.

In conclusion, children’s safety is probably the greatest responsibility of parents, educators and law makers. If we follow the tips above, I think that we can protect our children from real dangers.
