Longest line of sandwiches
From apple bobbing in Lancashire to the longest line of sandwiches in Dubai…my weird and wonderful work as a Guinness World records adjudicator continues. On 7th October 2010, I was invited to attend Kraft Foods Middle East’s global ‘Delicious Difference Week’, in which its employees in more than 40 countries around the world volunteer in their respective communities in the name of charity .

In Dubai, over 100 employees of Kraft Foods GCC and New Markets, Middle East gathered in Dubai Outlet Mall to attempt to set a new Guinness World Records title, accompanied by crowds of well-wishers and the expectant (if not bemused) international media. With over 10,000 baguettes, more than half a tonne of Kraft cream cheese spread and almost 900 kilograms of olives, cucumber and tomatoes at the ready, the Kraft employees began preparing the sandwiches for their rather unique record attempt.

So, how long does it take to prepare 10,000 sandwiches? The Kraft employees worked at the speed of lightening, speared on by team work, competitive spirit and the moral support of onlookers, to meticulously prepare the sandwiches in less than 3 hours. An impressive and valiant effort from the Kraft team and a great start to their record attempt!
Once the sandwiches had been prepared they were then laid out on tables positioned all around the shopping mall. It was then my job, accompanied by four surveyors to measure the entire line of sandwiches, which took almost an hour and felt more like a workout than record verification!
