Food is a substance which is edible to a specific organism. For example, a frog would consider flys as food, where as another organism, i.e. a horse would not. It would also only be considered as food if the organism could digest it or use it as energy. A human consumes food and uses the substances in it to convert it into glucose. This is then used as energy for moving. Organisms such as mammals, birds and fish can be 'picky' about what they eat. Some things that are edible to them, they may not choose to eat simply because the taste it gives may not be to their liking.

In conclusion, food is a source of energy, and is only considered as food, if the organism can use it as energy.
