Admission Requirements


Undergraduate Students are admitted to academic programs in the colleges of Sharia & Islamic Studies, Arts Humanities and Social Sciences, Business Administration, Sciences, Engineering, Health Sciences, Law, Fine Arts and Design, Communication, Pharmacy, Medicine, and Dentistry in accordance with requirements listed below:

Admission is competitive in most programs and capacity will be filled with best students applying to each program.

First: Students Holding a High School Certificate or its XXXXXalent (Science or Literature Sections):

A minimum average of 70% is required for admissions to the following colleges:

Shari’a & Islamic Studies
Business Administration
Law
Fine Arts & Design
Communication
Arts Humanities and Social Sciences
Second: Students Holding a High School Certificate or its XXXXXalent ( Science Section) :



A minimum average of 70% for admission to the College of Sciences
A minimum average of 75% for admission to the Colleges of Engineering and Health Sciences.
A minimum average of 80% for admission to the College of Pharmacy.
A minimum average of 85% for admission to the College of Dentistry.
A minimum average of 90% for admission to the College of Medicine.
Third: Students Holding a Technical High School Certificate or its XXXXXalent:



Students who have obtained a technical secondary certificate may apply to one of the University's colleges according to the following provisions:
Students carrying a Sharia secondary high school certificate or its XXXXXalent with a minimum of at least 75% may apply to the following Colleges: Sharia and Islamic Studies, Law, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (with the exception of English Language and Literature).
Students carrying a business secondary high school certificate or its XXXXXalent with a minimum of at least 80% may apply to the College of Business Administration (either Business Administration or Public Administration).
Students carrying an industrial secondary high school certificate or its XXXXXalent with a minimum of at least 85% may apply to the College of Engineering and the College of Sciences (according to their respective fields). Also, students carrying a certificate from a technical institution or its XXXXXalent with a minimum of at least 90% may apply to the College of Engineering or the College of Sciences (according to their respective fields).
Fourth: Students Holding a Foreign Secondary Certificate:



A. Students holding American secondary degree (High School Diploma) or its XXXXXalent (The International Baccalaureate):



Students should have completed 12 years of school upon obtaining the High School Certificate and be able to demonstrate proof thereof.
Students are required to present a certified copy of grades 10, 11, and 12 transcript certificates.
The High School Certificate must be recognized by the government universities in the country from which the certificate was obtained and proof of this must be presented (for students who have studied outside the UAE).
The student’s section (literature or science) shall be determined by what the student studied in grade 12.
Students are required to have completed at least (6) courses successfully within at least four of the following study areas: Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, and languages (with English as the language of instruction); For students applying to the Medical Colleges (Medicine, Dentistry, and Pharmacy) their science studies in the final three years of secondary school (G10, G11, G12) should be distributed as follows: Biology twice, chemistry twice physics at least once with a minimum grade of 'B' in biology and chemistry in grade 12.
UOS may award up to (12) credit hours for students who have successfully achieved a grade of (5) or better in specific subjects of the IB Higher-Level Examination.
B. Students who have Obtained a British Secondary Certificate (IGCSE, GCSE, GCE):
Students should have completed 12 years of school upon obtaining the High School Certificate and be able to demonstrate proof thereof.
Students should have completed seven courses for the British High School Certificate as follow :
At least (5) courses successfully in the (O Level) with a minimum average of (C) and (2) courses in the (AS Level) with a minimum average of (D).
Or at least (6) courses in the (O Level) with a minimum average of (C) and (1) course in the (A Level) with a minimum average of (E).
The subjects should cover the following areas of study: Mathematics, languages, sciences, social studies and the humanities.
To join the Medical Colleges (Medicine, Dentistry, or Pharmacy) the science courses taken by students in the (O Level) , (AS Level) or (A Level) must include biology and chemistry, one of which must be a grade of at least (B) in the (AS Level) and at least (C) in the (A Level).
UOS may award up to (12) credits for students who have successfully achieved a grade of (C) or better in specific subjects of GCE (A Level).
Fifth- Basic Requirements for Admission to the University:



1.Applicants should indicate their order of preference for majors on the application form.
2.Applicants are assigned their majors according to the following: The capacity of each college, the student’s preference for majors and the student’s grade average.
3.The applicant should not have been expelled from the University of Sharjah or any other educational institution for academic or disciplinary reasons.
4.The applicant’s degree should be obtained within minimum of three (3) years from the date of graduation on the High School Certificate to join one of the University’s literature or science programs (with the exception of the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry).
5.Students may reserve a place at the University after paying (AED3000), which is considered non-refundable and will count toward their tuition fees in the case of not joining or withdrawing from the University.
6.Paying a reservation fee and satisfying other requirements does guarantee final acceptance to the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry. All applicants will be competing for a limited number of seats available annually in each program.
7.Students are not allowed to register for their courses or apply for an ID card before submitting all required documents.


Sixth- Confirming Admissions for the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry:



1.All new students who are accepted in the Colleges of Medicine and Detistry are required to pay the tuition fees within a maximum period of one week after announcement of their acceptance.
2.Students who do not enroll for the semester for which they were admitted will be denied admission to the University and will not be refunded any fees paid.


Seventh- Minimum Requirements for Promotion to the First Year of the Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery or Bachelor of Dental Surgery are as follows:



The number of clinical placements is limited and formal advancement is highly competitive. Only the most highly qualified foundation students are promoted. To be considered for advancement to the first year of the MBBS program and BDS program a student is required to:



1.Successfully complete the foundation year.
2.Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of (2.5).
3.Attain a minimum cumulative GPA of (2.5) in Chemistry and Biology and in their respective labs.
Promotion also depends upon space availability in the first year of either program.


Ninth - Students Shall Abide by All Other University Requirements.

Important General Notes:

1.Please note that submitting an application, paying the application fee & receiving an ID number does not guarantee admission to the University. Admission is offered after paying a reservation fee, which will count toward tuition and is considered non-refundable in case of a student not joining or withdrawing from the University.
2.Paying a reservationfee and satisfying the other requirements does guarantee a final acceptance to the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry. All applicants will be competing for a limited number of seats available annually in each program.
3.Admission is valid ONLY for the academic semester for which the applicant applies.
4.The University is not responsible for sponsorship applications. These should be forwarded directly to scholarship sponsors and applicants should follow up on their applications.
5.Students who have been denied admission or have not enrolled in the colleges where they were accepted can reclaim their admission papers within two months from the date of their application.
6.The University does not accept the submission of the original High School Certificate but requires instead a copy certified by a recognized authority.
7.Students lose the right to remove any document from their files after their files have been submitted.
8.Students obtain admission exams results and personal interview dates and results on the University's website (University of Sharjah | Where civilizations meet (http://www.sharjah.ac.ae)).
9.New students are permitted to postpone admission for a maximum of one semester for all programs with the exception of College of Fine Arts and Design for which they may postpone admission for one year after paying the required fees and submitting all required forms to the Admission Office.
10.Paragraph (9) applies for all the University programs except for programs in the Colleges of Medicine and Dentistry which are subject to separate rules and regulations.
The University reserves the right to increase tuition fees on an annual basis.
