Diffrent types of computer

Workstations
A workstation is a specialized, single user computer that typically has more power and features than a standard desktop computer. These machines are more popular in the lab of scientists, engineers or even animators who require a system with greater than average speed and power to perform sophisticated calculations, rendering, or high level tasks.
Workstations often have larger and higher resolution monitors, and accelerated graphics. In relation to this, I would give you an example : - such as the Quadro series of graphic cards. They are commonly used in workstations.
This higher specifications allow for advanced architectural engineering design, modeling ,animation and even video editing.

Mainframes, computers which a great deal of computing power, enormous input-output capabilities and high level of reliability. Mainframes are used by large companies to carry out heavy computing operations are large volumes of data processing. Mainframes are normally used in centralised architectures, in which they are the heart

Personal computer:

It can be defined as a small, relatively inexpensive computer designed for an individual user. In price, personal computers range anywhere from a few hundred pounds to over five thousand pounds. All are based on the microprocessor technology that enables manufacturers to put an entire CPU on one chip. Businesses use personal computers for word processing, accounting, desktop publishing, and for running spreadsheet and database management applications. At home, the most popular use for personal
computers is for playing games and recently for surfing the Internet

Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs): It is a handheld computer and popularly known as a palmtop. It has a touch screen and a memory card for storage of data. PDAs can also be effectively used as portable audio players, web browsers and smart phones. Most of them can access the Internet by means of Bluetooth or Wi-Fi communication.

Supercomputers: The highly calculation-intensive tasks can be effectively performed by means of supercomputers. Quantum physics, mechanics, weather forecasting, molecular theory are best studied by means of supercomputers. Their ability of parallel processing and their well-designed memory hierarchy give the supercomputers, large transaction processing powers.

Wearable Computers: A record-setting step in the evolution of computers was the
creation of wearable computers. These computers can be worn on the body and are often used in the study of behavior modeling and human health. Military and health professionals have incorporated wearable computers into their daily routine, as a part of such studies. When the users’ hands and sensory organs are engaged in other activities, wearable computers are of great help in tracking human actions. Wearable computers are consistently in operation as they do not have to be turned on and off and are constantly interacting with the user.

server is a computer and storage device (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/storage_device.html)dedicated (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/dedicated.html) to storing (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/store.html)files (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/file.html). Any user (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/user.html) on the network can store files on the server. A print server is a computer that manages one or more printers (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/printer.html), and a network server is a computer that manages network traffic (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/traffic.html). A database (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/database.html) server is a computer system (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/computer_system.html) that processes database queries (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/query.html).
Servers are often dedicated, meaning that they perform no other tasks besides their server tasks. On multiprocessing (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/multiprocessing.html)operating systems (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/operating_system.html), however, a single computer can execute (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/execute.html) several programs (http://itmanagement.webopedia.com/TERM/S/program.html) at once. A server in this case could refer to the program that is managing resources rather than the
entire computer

Notebook computers
Notebook computers as the name implies is approximately the size of an 8.5-11 inch notebook and can easily fit inside a briefcase. Since most people including yourself would set this device on your lap and use it conveniently in eateries, cafes, at the work place, in education institutions and so on, hence the name laptop.
